![]() ![]() Here's a funny story about that game If my memory serves me correct. I played the first mission and thought the monsters I first encountered were dogs and I recall asking my father, why the dogs attacking me? Funnily enough my father eventually showed me that it was actually a shooter and I was supposed to kill the monsters. I remember trying it during my times with MSN Gaming Zone in 2005 before it got taken down sometime afterwards. Nowadays I tend to play it sometimes just to kill time, maybe I'll complete it someday.Īnyways, There is another top-down shooter I recall drooling over during my childhood was After The End by Kraisoft Entertainment, released in December 2004. Indeed! I remember playing the demo release and watching the attract-mode when you exit or go to the order screen just to watch the enemy ships get blown up, etc. I remember Clash N Slash (and also its sequel Clash N Slash: Worlds Away). I also heard you could play IPX DOS game through there at the time which I thought was interesting.Īnother interesting game I discovered last year is a freeware game called NaaC, that I grabbed from an old website () It was a top-down shooter game that reminds me of Crimsonland from 2003, and it has the funniest readme I ever read. It's a shame I couldn't play the online games on MSN Gaming Zone (likely due to my age at the time). They're manifest as all kinds of obstacles and things trying to kill him. You'd play 1v1, collecting powerups in your spaceship and firing them through the wormhole to your opponent. ![]() Loved those days (and the unlimited time you could play the demo online).Īs for early indie gaming, I always loved a game called Wormhole off one of those old flash sites. When I started playing StarCraft and tried I didn't understand why they had taken such a step back and I stand by that.Īge of Empires 2 on MSN Gaming Zone was a huge part of my childhood. Rooms you could customize, a chat bar at the bottom, PMs that popped up, profiles, etc. MSN Gaming Zone was and remains the best online platform for video games. ![]() I even remember getting into 3DO's Army Men games at the time because a unknown website provided free-trials of Army Men II and Toys in Space.Īnd I discovered Monolith's Get Medieval through RealArcade but couldn't get it working at the time, which was sad but later got it working nowadays.īut anyways, feel free to post your experiences with those obscure indie games. My first experience with video games in general came from these indie games off of MSN Gaming Zone and later Real Arcade back in the mid 2000s, playing various arcade, action and puzzle games like the well-known Bejeweled and Zuma by PopCap and later games from Kraisoft Entertainment such as After The End and Atomaders and also others like Alien Shooter and Crimsonland. I don't see many people talk about these indie games from the 1990s to mid to late 2000s, and I would love to hear your experiences of these obscure indies. Ready to play?
